Seven Transitional Drawings, Unfinished for Now

I find myself at a turning point with my art. I have two new pieces in progress that represent a significant departure from the other dark surrealist work I've made over the past five years: the visual style has shifted, the scope of the symbolism and meaning has expanded, and the actual process and materials will likely be quite different.
I'm excited about this new work and I'm putting deliberate thought into making it the best it can be.
Which leaves me with a dilemma. Because I have six other drawings that I created from Summer of 2025 into Spring of 2026 that are completed and ready for color – and one more that's close.
Those seven drawings were a direct expression of my life experiences and internal states at the time I made them, and each was conceived during a period of significant personal restructuring – a time when I underwent an internal shift that I did not properly know was possible.
A version of me who was scattered, anxious, and intent on proving his worth died in their creation. There's grief, hope, uncertainty, and clarity in them, and they represent the bridge that brought me to where I am now.
It's honestly hard for me to know how to honor them. On one hand, the energy, emotion, and effort that went into them seems to justify fulfilling the initial vision.
On the other hand, the person who made them isn't properly available for the work – it would feel like a tribute now more than a natural extension of the craft.
Without a strong pull in either direction, I seem content to leave them exactly as they are: art from a moment of transition left in a transitional state.
Maybe one day that will change.
In the meantime, I've added all seven here. I've written about a few of them already, and I'll share a dedicated entry about each of the others in the coming months.
